COMMUNITY SERVICE: WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S

Atlantic students are invited to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 11 at the Mizner Park Amphitheatre. The Alzheimer's Association will provide 7 hours of community service to students who volunteer at the event, an additional 3 hours for students who are registered to walk, and additional hours as listed here.

Student volunteers must complete the volunteer application (which includes a schedule and details of volunteer opportunities). A parent signature is required for minors. The completed form should be emailed, faxed or mailed to the Alzheimer's Association. Addresses are listed on the form.

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

Carver Middle School needs 20 volunteers to assist with their first "Fun with Science Family Night" on Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5:30 to 8 pm. Fun with science includes interactive science activities, experiments, and demonstrations for students and their families.

The Norton Museum of Art is recruiting volunteers for its Wheels and Heels summer camp exhibition. Volunteers’ primary responsibility is to engage visitors in a fun, dynamic way and help create a welcoming, enjoyable experience. Volunteers will be responsible for assisting with classroom art projects, monitoring activity areas, and other Museum exhibition-related events. Museum volunteers receive incentives such as café and store discounts, exhibition walkthroughs, and a volunteer luncheon. Community service opportunity: Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation at the Delray Affair

The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is seeking volunteers to help register donors at the Delray Affair April 25 to 27. 

Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is a leading bone marrow and blood stem cell registry. For more than twenty years, Gift of Life has been helping children and adults suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic disorders find their life-saving donors for bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants. Gift of Life maintains a growing registry of 236,000 volunteer donors and has facilitated more than 2,700 transplants for patients in need.

Springtime Community Service Opportunity

Atlantic Community High School is gathering items to fill Spring Baskets for needy children of East Delray Beach.

We are asking for donations for children ages 6 months - 12 years old.  Students interested in helping can donate any of the following items. There will be a drop box in the IB office.

Suggested items:
Gift baskets
Cellophane wrap for baskets
Ribbon
Basket grass or other filler
Candy
Children's hair accessories
Children's socks for boys or girls
Lotion
Comb & brush sets
Little girls' dress up jewelry, make-up
Small spring-themed toys (cars, puzzles, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, games, etc.)
Arts and crafts
Any other fun things to put in a child's spring gift basket

For donations, please place all items in a bag with your name clearly written on the outside to ensure CS hours are credited to you.

Students can earn a limited number of community service hours for donations:  1-3 items = 1 hour; 4+ items = 2 hours

Additionally, students can earn hours by participating in the filling and packaging of the Spring Baskets on Thursday, April 17, in the IBO from 3 pm to 5 pm.


Note: This event will occur after the April 1 deadline for community service hours.  An exception will be made for students who participate in this activity.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: Great American Cleanup

The Sandoway House, Delray Beach Parks and Recreation, and Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful, Inc. (KPBCB) are sponsoring the Great American Cleanup on the beach in Delray from 8 am to 10 am on April 5. Meet at the Sandoway House, 142 S. Ocean Blvd. Supplies will be provided and participants will earn community service hours.

Community service at the PBC Clerk's office

The Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller’s office will have an orientation session for high school students who want to earn volunteer service hours with the office during winter break. 

The orientation is at 4 p.m. Thursday, November 14, at the Clerk’s office administrative offices on the ninth floor of the Palm Beach County Governmental Center, 301 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach. 

Students must be at least 15 years old to volunteer with the Clerk & Comptroller’s office, and must pass required background checks. Students between 15 and 17 years old will be required to submit a completed, notarized parental consent form.
 
Volunteers will learn skills such as proper business etiquette, data entry, and how to use courthouse software and office equipment.
