Parents and community members,
Please continue to contact your legislators to share your concerns around the K-12 assessments and accountability issues affecting our children and schools.
Florida PTA encourages the House and Senate to continue to work together to address this important issue. Florida PTA recommends that the Legislature:
- Allow for proper field-testing and test development in areas with similar demographics to Florida's diverse demographics;
- Suspend the issuance of school letter grades until performance data has been deemed reliable;
- Allow for additional testing and calculation flexibility to students with disabilities and students who speak limited English; and
- Use multiple years of a new exam as a baseline for generating school grades and teacher evaluations.

FLORIDA TEACHER FAIR PAY ACT
A bill to increase the base pay for Florida teachers to $50,000 was introduced in the legislature in March 2015. The aim of Senate Bill 280 and House Bill 261 is to attract and retain qualified teachers.
If you would like to join us in supporting this bill, please take a minute to write or call your state representatives. You can find your house and senate representatives' addresses here, and use this sample letter. The National PTA has tips for communicating with elected officials here.

Dear Volunteers:
Today, the voters of Palm Beach County sent a strong vote of confidence for the work each of you do every day on behalf of our students. Voters approved our School District's referendum asking for the continuation of a 0.25 mill levy that was originally approved by voters in 2010.
This funding will allow us to continue supporting more than 90,000 students in over 120 of our non-charter schools and 500-plus Arts, Music, and Physical Education teaching positions as well as Choice/Magnet programs.
Today's vote confirms that the residents of Palm Beach County value public education and has confidence in our School District and each of you to deliver a world-class education. It is a combination of our community's support and your talents and dedication that make the School District of Palm Beach County Your Best Choice!
Thank you for all you do for our students.
Sincerely,
E. Wayne Gent
Superintendent
