The Roots Cultural Festival is sponsoring an Academic Olympics competition on Saturday, July 11, from 8 am to 2 pm at Pompey Park. The competition is open to students in grades 3 to 12. Events include essay, oratorical and math contests, and a spelling bee, each in elementary, middle and high school divisions. Visit the Roots Cultural Festival website for details and an application.

Three cases of measles have been identified in nearby counties in recent weeks. The Palm Beach County Health Department has issued a letter to parents regarding procedures that will be used should a measles case occur in Palm Beach County, including details on what actions the health department and the school district will take to minimize exposure among students who have not been immunized. The letter is available online here (Creole and Spanish versions are available). The heath department encourages anyone who has not been immunized to get vaccinated.
