The slide show below documents the Construction Academy's Eagle's Nest 2 project from footings to rooftop. Eagle's Nest 2 is the second home designed and built by the Atlantic High School Construction Academy. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,940 square-foot home was built on a lot donated by the city, and the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency provided the construction loan. The Construction Academy teamed with local architects, business groups, state and local construction organizations, volunteers, and government agencies to build the home. PAX (Program of Academic Exchange) is accepting applications now for host families. Everyone is welcome to host, and students are available from 30 different countries. International students arrive in August 2013 on an academic homestay program. Teens from Italy, Spain, Germany, China, Thailand, and 30 other countries are interested in living with an American family and attending an American high school for 1 or 2 semesters. All PAX students speak English, have full medical insurance, and come with their own spending money. Host families come in all shapes and sizes! All are welcome to host, including singles, young couples, and retirees. Families with young children are some of the most successful hosts! When you become a host or refer a host family, $150 will be donated to Atlantic Community High School. Families need only provide a place for the student to sleep (may share a room) and study, meals, and a warm, supportive environment. PAX can match the student to you and/or your family's interests such as music, sports, cooking, martial arts, tennis, etc. PAX Community Coordinator Jeanne Monte is currently interviewing area families in Palm Beach and Broward counties.
