The city of Delray Beach and the Sandoway House are participating in the Ocean Conservancy's 29th annual International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, from 8 am until 10 am, at the Sandoway House Nature Center, 142 South Ocean Boulevard. The money raised at these coffee-house-style poetry slams is used to fund the school's literary magazine.
Junior Marc Rodriguez competed with the Palm Beach County All-Star Academic Challenge Team in Orlando April 10-12. The Palm Beach County team finished in first place in the first round, and ended the tournament in fourth place after the semi-finals. Click here for more information and a team picture. Parent and teacher/staff members interested in serving on the executive board or in assisting with other specific PTSA initiatives (including — but not limited to — arts education, legislation, health & safety, and the National PTA Reflections arts award program) should attend the April 22 meeting, or email us at [email protected]. Registration is open for the April 26 Palm Beach County Youth Summit at Gaines Park in West Palm Beach. Topics include bullying, violence prevention, employment, education, and health and nutrition. THE ATL STUDENT ART SHOW showcases works from all students who took art classes this year. Parents, students, faculty and community members are welcome to attend the opening reception on Monday, April 14, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The show will be open to students during the school day on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15 and 16. IB SENIOR CELEBRATION PROGRAM: The IB department is taking orders for ads in the IB Senior Celebration program. The program will be distributed to IB seniors and their families who attend the dinner celebration on May 15 at the Delray Beach Golf Club. Ads can include congratulatory messages to the class, adorable childhood photos, messages to the student, thank you messages to staff members, etc. If you would like to include a message, or if you know of local businesses who would like to place an ad in the program, download the ad order form here. Please submit completed order forms to Mrs. Cheek in the IB office by Friday, April 18. Kaplan is offering a free practice PSAT on May 3 at 10 am at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach. Any student interested in taking the practice test should register online here. Students will receive a complete score report of their performance within 2 weeks of taking the practice test.
Atlantic Community High School is gathering items to fill Spring Baskets for needy children of East Delray Beach.
We are asking for donations for children ages 6 months - 12 years old. Students interested in helping can donate any of the following items. There will be a drop box in the IB office. Suggested items: Gift baskets Cellophane wrap for baskets Ribbon Basket grass or other filler Candy Children's hair accessories Children's socks for boys or girls Lotion Comb & brush sets Little girls' dress up jewelry, make-up Small spring-themed toys (cars, puzzles, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, games, etc.) Arts and crafts Any other fun things to put in a child's spring gift basket For donations, please place all items in a bag with your name clearly written on the outside to ensure CS hours are credited to you. Students can earn a limited number of community service hours for donations: 1-3 items = 1 hour; 4+ items = 2 hours Additionally, students can earn hours by participating in the filling and packaging of the Spring Baskets on Thursday, April 17, in the IBO from 3 pm to 5 pm. Note: This event will occur after the April 1 deadline for community service hours. An exception will be made for students who participate in this activity.
